Cantilever Interiors Custom K2 Kitchen - Mills Street project

A beautiful townhouse in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Albert Park has been given new life with a contemporary kitchen from Cantilever Interiors that blends seamlessly with the existing architecture and provides maximum function and style in a narrow space.

The kitchen in the Mills Street home is central to a new extension at the back of the house. A testament to understated luxury, it has the clean, minimalist lines of Cantilever Interiors’ celebrated K2 Series and its classic white palette includes a splashback made from handcrafted Anchor ceramics tiles.

As classic terrace house, the width of the home is quite narrow and the Cantilever Interiors design maximises space with an island bench that is 700mm deep. “All the services, such as the sink and the cooktop, are on the perimeter, so there is a clear surface for prepping and serving,” explains Travis Dean, Cantilever Interiors director and co-founder. “In small spaces, the island bench real estate needs to be multi-purpose. In the case of this kitchen, the owner is an avid baker and uses the open space on the island for rolling pastry and kneading bread.”

The service-free island bench also features two blackbutt veneer open mitred boxes, which not only provide functional storage space but also add further texture and warmth to the design. Timber accents are also introduced through open shelf for displaying personal objects.

The classic, sophisticated style of the kitchen complements the overall design of the home and maximises functionality in a narrow space. Like all Cantilever Interiors kitchens, it fits perfectly with how the owners like to live.
