Helen Kontouris designs "NGV Room" for the Australian Open 2018
Helen Kontouris Designs the Australian Open Pavillion for the National Gallery of Victoria called the "NGV Room by Helen Kontouris".
The National Gallery of Victoria has engaged Australian artist and furniture designer Helen Kontouris to create a unique hospitality space for fans on site at the Australian Open Tennis 2018. Through her furniture, lighting and object designs, Kontouris has created an intimate and sensory retreat that celebrates the energy and diversity of the Australian Open.
Known as The NGV Room by Helen Kontouris, the spaces evokes a cool and calming oasis for tennis fans to retreat to amongst the bustle of the Australian Open. Opened for the duration of the Australian Open from 14 – 28 January 2018, the space highlights Kontouris’ contemporary range of lighting and furniture designs.
Helen Kontouris has worked as a designer for over a decade and is known for integrating organic forms and imaginative elements into traditional concepts. Her approach often takes traditional, linear concepts and combines a fluid feminine sensibility inspired from a narrative informed by her travels. Kontouris has created work for industry leaders De Padova, Alessi, Kundalini, Celda, Ritzenhoff, Schiavello and museums.
