International Melbourne Design Week runs from March 15 to March 25, 2018 and features a 10-day celebration of talks, showcases, design tours, workshops, industry events and networking opportunities.
This premier event is a coup for Melbourne, attracting 120,000 leading international designers, businesses and public from around the world
As part of Melbourne’s 2018 partnership with Hong Kong Business of Design Week, this month's Melbourne Design Week will play host to a group of visiting designers from Hong Kong, showcasing Melbourne as a centre of design capability and leadership.
The NGV Design Store will curate a series of in store pop-ups, developed in collaboration with the Hong Kong Design Centre presenting a group of standout designers from Hong Kong in the fields of fashion, product design, furniture and fashion accessories. The designers will showcase their work under the theme “Pocket World – where Big Things Happen in Small Spaces”.
This exciting showcase of Hong Kong talent in Australia is the second leg of the Hong Kong Design Centre’s BODW initiative “DXHK Melbourne 2018” which is a pilot design exchange programme that aims to establish Hong Kong as a centre of design excellence in Asia.
Entering the league of design capitals such as Italy, Chicago, Barcelona and Sweden, Melbourne will be the first city in the southern hemisphere to be chosen as the partner city at this premier event.
The Hong Kong showcase will be prominent throughout the 10-day event and will also be on display at the National Gallery of Victoria Design Store until mid-April 2018.
